Hi all. My name is Erin, and this is my first
blog post. Pretty exciting stuff eh?
Behold the blogger before you; I am a journalism student in my junior year here
at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I like indie music, artsy fartsy films
and reading. Besides my twin sister I am the first person in my family to go to
college ever. I also write for our illustrious school newspaper The Michigan
Journal, and you should too. I dream of going into broadcast journalism or something in the multi
media field, I love knitting and I'm your average over intellectual hipster.
Right now I'm reading True Enough by Farhad Majoo and my current favorite band is Belle and Sebastian (I know their old timey, but I love them.)
A little bit about why you should care about me; Like many students today I am
struggling to pay my own way through school and life. If your parents are able
to pay for anything for you for school I want you to power down your computer
right now and thank them. You are blessed.
If you're like me and are young and basically alone in paying for school, take
heart. You can do this. It'll be tough, but it will be so sweet when you
finish. At least, I certainly hope it will be.
So I work a string of increasingly poor paying and seedy jobs to try and
support my learning habit. The zany adventures of which I'm sure will be
chronicled here at some point. I'm currently a intern at my dream job Detroit
National Public Radio for no money. I don't care if it leads to a life of destitution I love it. There's a lot to be said for doing what you love. I guess if you want to pull anything from this pointless rant it's that: Do what you love. Find the money along the way, and when you find what you love the money will find you (hopefully)
Sounds like something your wierd aunt says when your mom is trying to talk to you about Med school? You bet. But it's a far better way to live than "When I retire I'll do what I want".
Anyway, keep it real banana peels.
