Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
-Robert Frost.
After this week, I've become a believer in ice. It has been colder longer this week than at any other time previously in my life. I drove to work at the station in -8 degree weather (and that's WITHOUT the wind chill). Like most Michiganians there is nothing I like to discuss more than our crappy weather, followed closely by our lousy roads and amazing hockey team. I love weather, but this has been unceasing, unrelenting cold and snow. Even now it's snowing.
Oh well. I survived the first week of class for the Winter 09 semester. It is going to be a tough one, but I'm really passionate and excited about all my classes (even the really difficult ones). Work is okay, survivable only because there aren't too many people bothering me at the library yet. Some kids act like such creeps when they're looking for a book. Work at the station is pretty great. I have 2 minutes of work every hour, so I (in theory) will be getting a lot of homework done.
I will also be paying off a ton of bills with money from the station if they keep me on for a long time (oh please!) and I am all set to start another year of writing like a mad woman for the MJ. As long as I survive the cold I'll be good. I have to at least survive the next two days so I can get to see Mr. Obama's inauguration. I just keep hoping everything will be alright, and that he can live up to our expectations and do what we need. It's a small spot of light on a bleak horizon.
Stay warm college students, and have a safe MLK day!
