Just A Tad Meticulous Cause It's Time To Grow Up!
Sunday is officially hibernation day for Shae. I am going to make it official because people can never get a hold of me and I am completely unresponsive to all things extremely noisy.
I have been so busy outside of work and school that I have literally neglected my blog, and that doesn't make me too proud! I apologize to all my readers. After my last post I began getting ready to move into my new place (yes, away from the parental unit). It was hard because finals were coming up for the Winter semester!
If you've read any posts from last year or this year, sometimes I wrote about my stressful home life and how things weren't working out. I was unhappy because the problems affected all aspects of my life and my G.P.A was constantly decreasing. I finally packed my things and decided it was time to grow up if I really wanted my own happiness and freedom. I admit it was scary and such a big adjustment because I had no connections to family due to safety reasons. The police and campus safety were involved, and the office staff at UM-D and my professors were more than understanding and helped me through this adjustment. I honestly could not see the light of day during the past two months of my life due to all the stress.
So I'll end the post at that because I honestly feel like telling you guys about the W.O.W trip, and how awesome the Orientation Leaders are this year and then I'll just blab on and on and on.
Click here to see who they are! They are so committed to making the transition for incoming students go as smoothly as possible. I have so many videos and pictures to share so I hope you stay tuned!!

An Error Will Occur in
3... 2... 1
If only I was given a warning.
I am aware it's about two in the morning as I write this blog post. Sometimes an overloaded college student has to stay up late a few nights here and there just to finish projects and study.
As of thirty minutes ago, I lost 95% of my media project due to a "technical error." I also lost my entire file of citations and list of resources. I had spent a few days including six hours of today on this project. I even went to a lounge in College of Business on campus where I was guaranteed to be away from temptations of life and friends. It was just me... the laptop... and Starbucks all day.
Now my world has fallen apart. The project I worked so hard on is gone.
for determining what I will be doing with my life tomorrow at College of Business, once again.
Now that I am done venting, I have some pictures to share. I learned after a few pictures were taken that it would be best if the flash were off, so I apologize in advance.
Students and faculty had been asked what was something they wanted to accomplish in their life. Polaroid pictures of the respondents were taken and posted on display in the University Center's Kochoff Hall.

Facebook Withdrawal...
or Maybe Not.
I am on Week 3 of my post Facebook existence.
I have been writing essays more efficiently
and have refrained from web surfing when I'm supposed to be studying.
How long will I last without Facebook? I do not know.
That is all.

Midterm Therapy
I was oven-baked and fried by my exams. The past few weeks have been filled with many caffeinated pushes and midterm rushing.
Midterms: (n) examinations administered at the middle of an academic term coinciding with due dates for projects and midterm papers. Potential side effects may or may not include stress, fatigue, writer's block, increased anxiety and a heightened need for caffeine.
I guess Procrastination didn't want to spend any time with me this semester but Writer's Block was a complete stalker.
What kept me afar from insanity was my daily dose of midterm therapy with friends. The time when we get together to vent and proceed to take a break from the books.
Hmmmmmm......
Finals are approaching quite conspicuously. I spy three exams with a handful of essays and projects. I'm thinking I need to be prepared. That's right... time to pull out that Starbucks gift card. If only I could remember where I put it.

Our Student Government
It's time for student elections on our campus!
Whether you are a current student or prospective visitor on campus, the importance of this election shall be a topic of my post today, especially since their fliers and websites have caught my attention on numerous occasions.
I think having this vital role on our
campus allows these students running for senate the chance to have an
important leadership position on our campus, one that is very time consuming and provides the chance for professional growth, regardless of their major, whether they are a Biology, Business, or a Political Science major, etc.
This election will determine our president, vice-president, student senators, and which students will be represented in our student senate regardless if they belong to a party or are independent. In order to run for office, these students must have a petition filled with signatures from students on our campus. Their name will then appear on the ballot on election day. The students that cannot meet their required minimum number of signatures will become a write-in, where their name would have to be written in by a voter. On election day, students on campus get to vote for who they think would best represent them in office.
Elections will take place on campus on March 31 and April 1st. If I'm not eaten alive by my schedule, I hope to bring you pictures of the student engagement taking place on those days.
Here are just two examples of the fliers on campus (click to enlarge):

Upon analysis, I have come to the conclusion that I really had no social life Monday through Wednesday unless you count meeting new perspective students visiting our campus, which I really enjoyed. Well, you know what... I will count that as socializing because I love meeting new people.
I hope to see you all again on Wednesday. Enjoy the weather!

Snow, Donuts, and Wet Hair
One hour and fifteen minutes.
That was my commute on the way home from UM-D yesterday. I drove really s l o w.
Cleaning my car was an epic fail at first try. The snowfall was so heavy my windows were covered in an inch of snow within a matter of seconds.
Snow compiled on top of my head as well, frozen
in balls of flakes as I cleaned my car. As I sat inside waiting for her (my car) to warm up, the snow balls
began to melt over me, and soon I had water dripping down my hair.
Today I am looking forward to meeting some high school students that are visiting campus for a few hours. Hopefully the weather today is warm and dry!

Friday Fix
Okay so maybe my plan to get eight hours of sleep last night was an epic failure.
Maybe, just maybe my plan to go to Walmart to stock up on Yoplait Yogurt was another fail.
And possibly maybe, my plan to schedule my appointment for dental surgery didn't happen.
.... fail. fail. fail.
On the bright side I went to work, had a meeting, went to the dance studio for a good hour and had a meeting at my second job. That's some pretty good accomplishments right there considering I was such a wreck when I woke up.
... I didn't know what day of the week it was and proceeded to continue sleeping.
... I also forgot to return my six library books that were due earlier this week. Late fines, anyone?
... My Tim Horton's yogurt cup exploded over my left hand. Fine, I'll admit it was my fault for grasping it too hard but the latter in the broken cup was saved by my heroic efforts:
I think I need to buy a PDA because my crunchy agenda has not been in use ever since the water explosion in the trunk of my car. Do they even make PDA's anymore with the iPhone and other whatnot's being sold in stores?
Off to get some much needed sleep! I leave you with a word cloud:
Oh, and congratulations to all the NEW Orientation Leaders! I am so excited to see them this upcoming week and for them to experience what it's like to work with all the wonderful staff on our campus.

Treating My Studies Like I Treat My Job
(It's like hearing, "You're Fired!" if I get a low grade)
Note to self: Stay away from fast food when studying.
I'm not implying there's strife between me and junk food, it's just that fast food makes me awfully sleepy. That's not a good thing when I'm trying to study or finish an important project at the last minute.
Sometimes I really wish the terms of my scholarship would allow me to take less than four classes a semester without losing aid. Usually a month or so into each semester I feel ridiculously overwhelmed and helpless. My friends always advise me to take a break, or take a few days off from work. One of the things I fear most is being a broke college student, so letting go of work isn't really much of an option.
It seems as if all my projects, essays, assignments, and tests are due all at the same day. Having online classes means the work is double-fold.
The only non-stress related thing to have happened this past week was giving a campus tour to Beecher School students that came to visit UM-D. I spent some time meeting high school and middle school students. The teacher that accompanied the group asked a lot of questions about what it's like to be a college student. I really enjoy being an Orientation Leader for so many reasons, including the fact that I love meeting new people.
* So here's what I was up against this past week besides the campus tour I gave:
-- Read two Communication chapters + write three short papers on different topics
-- Study for Science Test
-- Read 5 chapters of History + Write a History paper + Do the take-home test
- (sounds like a little bit of work but really, I spent about seven hours this week)
-- Finish Project about Creative Commons + licensing of media online
- (this project sucked the life out of me for awhile)
-- Finish choreography for dance team + Make a remix
-- Get at least three hours of sleep a night
-- Attend IMPACT meeting+ prep for the child I will mentor this year
-- 25 hour work week
Aah, I just hope I don't pull out my hair. A part of me thinks I'll be alright. My grades have been great so far this semester. Anyway, drive safe everyone and good luck finding parking today on campus!
